Interview Process

The interview process is really the opportunity to show case and sell your skills and it is also the chance to discuss about the role and responsibility with the potential employer. The interviewer will usually ask questions from your resume so be prepared in advance by reading your resume. You should be able to elaborate on all information written in your resume. Pre-think possible questions that the interviewer may ask from your resume and prepare possible answers.

If the employer has gone in a lot of detail to explain the role and the responsibility it would be a good to give examples from your experience that shows that you are the right fit for the job.

Some common questions asked during an interview are as below. You would rarely be asked all questions.

  • Please tell me about yourself. In your degree was there any particular course you enjoyed the most?
  • Can you give me an example of a project you completed in school or college?
  • Can you tell me your job responsibility in your last job?
  • Why did you leave your last position?
  • What have you been doing since you left your last job?
  • Give me examples of your projects completed and your greatest achievement?
  • Why do you think you are suitable for this role?
  • How do you think you can contribute to the company?
  • What do you know about this company?

The following points will ensure your first impression is a good one.

  • Dress in formal office attire
  • Must visit and read about the company from the company website
  • Understand the role that you are being interviewed for
  • Ensure you are ten minutes early or at least on time; if you are running late call and inform them
  • Take a copy of your resume, application form and all educational certifications

Effective Resume

Writing a resume can be a daunting task, especially if you have never been an active job seeker. Resumes are of two types one is a chronological resume which is the most commonly used and in which your most recent role is written first followed by the previous positions. The focus of is resume is based on your work history, experience and skills. The other type of resume is the functional resume which has a focus on the skills as compared to the work history. You will need to decide which type is most suitable to your current career progression.

Your resume is a critical document that needs to be perfected before the job search. It should serve as a marketing tool for you. The goal of the resume is to secure a face to face interview with the client

You must look at the following areas when writing your resume

  • A resume length should not be more than 2-3 pages
  • Use a simple format on a plain background
  • Include a professional photograph

  • Include action words and remove words such as I and Me
  • Write your latest job first and go backwards
  • Write key achievements in each company
  • Include your correct contact details, number and a professional e-mail address
  • Edit your resume to ensure that each paragraph is concise
  • Be ready to customize your resume for individual employers
  • Your resume should be updated every six months
  • Include a section to include your references
